News from our Deputy Principal, Leader of Learning and Teaching/Diversity - 24 April 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

I have spoken before on the importance of reading, and as we start a new term will touch on it again.

Reading is a cornerstone of education, and mastering high-frequency words is essential for young learners. These common words form the foundation of reading fluency, allowing students to recognise them quickly and focus on understanding the text. Reading aloud further enhances this skill by promoting fluency and improving comprehension. It helps students develop a natural reading rhythm and better grasp the meaning of what they read. Encouraging children to read aloud regularly not only boosts their confidence but also fosters a lifelong love for reading.

What can you do as parents?  Show your children you value reading; Read with your child, have them read to you each night. Reading the same text aloud for a period of time (over consecutive nights) helps develop fluency and comprehension.

Happy Reading!

Kind Regards,

Mrs Gallagher
