With the help of Emma from Sydney's SEA LIFE Aquarium our Year 2 class had a wonderful time learning about vulnerable and endangered animals, with a special focus on dugongs! The students wrote information reports describing the dugong’s appearance, diet, habitat, and how we can help protect these gentle sea creatures. Our students had an experience comparing their height to a life-sized dugong model—measuring around 3 metres long! They were also thrilled to receive a personalised video message from Emma, a Dugong Keeper at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, who introduced them to Pig, one of only three dugongs cared for in an aquarium setting. What an inspiring way to connect classroom learning with real-world conservation!
