Firies Visit Yr 1

We were very lucky to have the firefighters visit our Year 1 students. The Fire Education program is designed for Year 1 students in Queensland schools, the program aims to assist students in developing an understanding of the dangers of fire and the appropriate responses in a situation where fire is involved.

The Fire Ed program engages students in interactive, collaborative learning experiences to promote their understanding of good and bad fires, the dangers of smoke, dialling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency, the role of the emergency services in helping in a fire emergency, safety around fires and having a school and home escape plan.

Here are some of our key learning take aways:

  1. Know your address, and the emergency number: 000
  2. Make sure you have smoke alarms in your home and test them
  3. Four important rules for fire safety:
  • Don’t hide: scream and shout
  • Get down low and go go go!
  • Get out and stay out
  • Stop, drop, and roll
  1. Have a designated meeting point in your house in case of an emergency and an escape plan, which you should create as a family. Practice this plan.

The firemen will be returning next week to ensure we did our above homework, and we will get to learn about the fire truck and tools aboard.

Thank you to the firefighters for their engaging lesson with our Year 1 students, we look forward to your next visit!
